The Cashmere Adventure Park, proposed for Christchurch’s Port Hills is being touted as a quick fix to Christchurch’s tourism woes.
The project, which includes downhill mountain bike tracks, ziplines and a luge is being examined at a city council hearing.
Recreation planning expert Robert Greenaway says the park would be a much needed addition to Christchurch’s tourism portfolio, which has been lacking since the earthquakes.
"And it needs that tourism development now just to keep the ball rolling. The earthquakes have had a really significant effect on commercial tourism and this just fills that niche really nice."
Mr Greenaway says the project appeals to locals and tourists, which in his experience is a recipe for success.
