Police have released the name of the man who died in a workplace accident in near Christchurch.

He was 70-year-old Alan John Scott from Ohoka in the Waimakariri District.

Police and ambulance staff were called to the scene, in the Le Bons area near Akaroa, about 2.15pm on Monday.

Police said on Monday that the man had apparently been operating machinery when he died, but the circumstances surrounding the incident were yet to be confirmed.
