Workers urged not to quit after summer break

Workers thinking of quitting in the new year are being urged not to make any rash decisions.

Recruitment companies typically receive thousands more enquiries in January, from people looking to change jobs.

But Hays New Zealand managing director Jason Walker says people need to think carefully before jumping ship.

"You might have a great opportunity where you are currently, just don't let the emotions move you and make sure you think through things rationally."

He says recruitment companies usually receive a surge in enquiries at the start of the year.

"We have more than 12,000 people hitting our website every month looking for new roles, and it does peak up to 15,000 in January."

Walker says people who make knee-jerk decisions in January, can actually end up worse off after changing jobs.
