Telstra is in talks to buy the company that owns the world's largest private submarine cable network, Pacnet.
If successful, Telstra will take control of around 46-thousand kilometres of undersea cable stretching between Asia and the United States.
Pacnet owners are eyeing a valuation of over a billion dollars.
