The public is being called on by police to keep a look out for suspicious activity, as cannabis-growing season gets underway.

Police said there are a number of isolated and remote areas within Waitemata, Auckland, Counties Manakau which criminals will use to grow drugs.

Detective Sergeant Callum McNeill is urging the community to be vigilant, as criminals will have to frequently return to these remote areas to maintain their crop.

"Obviously police have an enforcement role to play in relation to drugs, but the police can't solve this problem alone. And we would like the members of the community to play their part in addressing this ongoing issue."

Detective Sergeant McNeill said there are a number of remote areas within Waitemata, Auckland, Counties Manakau which criminals will use to grow drugs.

"They have to return frequently to the these locations to
maintain the crop, as well as transport all the equipment needed with them. So we use the community to be vigilant."
