The Australian company associated with Northland's luxurious Peppers Carrington Resort is distancing itself from the appointment of former Northland MP Mike Sabin by the resort owners.

Sabin's appointment follows his resignation from Parliament.

The Mantra Group denies Sabin has been employed or appointed by Peppers and says he is not involved in the day-to-day running of the hotel.

It says Sabin's been employed by the owners of Carrington Resort, Shanghai CRED, in a role unrelated to the operation of the hotel.

His title is CEO of the Magnificent Jade group of companies which is part of Shanghai CRED.
