Half of The Base, New Zealand's biggest shopping mall, is for sale.

The Hamilton mall is owned by the commercial arm of Waikato Tainui.

Tainui Group Holdings Acting CEO Chris Joblin says the decision comes following a three month review.

He says they're looking for an experienced joint venture partner and operator.

Up for sale is a half share of building developments and sub leases but the underlying land won't be sold.
