The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has taken enforcement action against eight Opotiki kiwifruit industry employers found to be breaching employment laws.
Last year 29 pack houses, orchards and offices were checked for compliance with employment, immigration and tax laws.
Eight employers were found to have the breached the Employment Relations Act, Holidays Act, Minimum Wage Act and Wage Protection Act, each were issued with improvement notices.
MBIE Labour Inspectorate Regional Manager Natalie Gardiner says the level of non compliance found during the check was disappointing.
