New research has found most manufacturers can, but won't add safety features to their quad bikes.
The James Cook University research comes after quads this year officially surpassed tractors as the most dangerous piece of farm equipment in Australia.
Professor Sabina Knight says manufacturers have the ability to fix instability problems, give the bikes anti-crush devices and instigate a safety rating system so farmers know what they're buying.
"The manufacturers are being very resistant to making any changes. There are design features that need to be introduced so that it's not possible for kids to ride adult bikes," she says.
