A claim against the Government by kiwifruit growers for hundreds of millions dollars over the Psa virus that ripped through much of the Bay of Plenty has been lodged at the High Court in Wellington.
The claim is a class action alleging that the then Biosecurity NZ was negligent in allowing Psa to be introduced into New Zealand.
Kiwifruit Claim chairman, John Cameron, says it's about “official accountability and redress for the destruction of so many kiwifruit growers’ livelihoods”.
All kiwifruit growers have been invited to join the class action for a one-off fee of $500, $1000 or $1500 depending on the size of their orchard.
