Exports to China set to take off

Export businesses are fizzing at the prospect of more flights to China.

The Air Services Agreement between the New Zealand and Chinese governments is being doubled, to allow 42 flights per week between the countries.

Tim White, chairman of the New Zealand China Trade Association, says beyond the obvious tourism benefits it's great news for Kiwi exports.

"Fruit and seafood is a couple of examples. They're not the sort of thing you can put on ships and take weeks to get to market."

Mr White says it makes access to China even easier for business.

"Both the President and New Zealand Prime Minister have been very very bullish on trade and investment ties between the two countries, so this is just part of all of that."

He says it's a sign of the strengthening economic bond we have with China.
