DVD's, in-car satellite navigation systems and MP3 players are being kicked out of the Consumer Price Index.

About 700 goods and services are selected to measure inflation and are reviewed every three years.

Statistics NZ Prices senior manager Jason Attewell says they're changing things up to reflect what people are buying the most.

He said the sharing economy is being introduced to CPI as people head online for the likes of Uber and Airbnb.

Craft beer, massages and clothing alterations are also now in but sewing machines are out.
