The Briscoe Group is poised to launch a takeover of Kathmandu.
It's acquired 19.9 percent of the shares of the clothing and outdoor equipment retailer.
Briscoe has informed the stock exchange it will be lodging a takeover notice.
It had built up a 4.99 percent shareholding over time, just below the 5 per cent disclosure level.
Briscoe bought a further 14.91 percent shares from a number of institutional shareholders at $1.80 a share.
Briscoe Group Managing Director Rod Duke said he's excited by the potential that would arise from bringing together these two iconic retailers.
