Len Brown is keeping out of the debate about extending Bledisloe Wharf, and keeping it off the council agenda.

Ports of Auckland, the council-owned port company, has resource consent to begin extending the wharf from next week.

There's mounting public opposition to the plan and the mayor has been asked to raise it at a council meeting today.

But a spokesperson for his office says he has no intention to add the issue to the meeting agenda, or make further comment.

It would be the final opportunity for councillors to formally discuss the issue before the port proceeds with its plans.

Port reclamation could be off the cards

The mayor is also refusing to comment on the separate issue of port reclamation.

After a groundswell of opposition to reclamation, a majority of the Auckland Development Committee want to revisit the issue.

The committee could hold another vote on the council's submission on reclamation rules next week.

The issue will then be heard by an independent hearings panel next month.

Councillors to sign off amenities funding

This morning's full council meeting will include a vote on proposed funding for ratepayer-funded amenities.

The funding board has recommended more than $15 million be distributed to a range of community groups and events.

It's proposed extra funding to make Auckland Arts Festival an annual event and to carry out a strategic review of Stardome Observatory.

Councillors will also appoint an electoral officer for next year's local elections.
