Even events celebrating Children's Day today are being affected by the fruit fly scare in Auckland.
The technology museum MOTAT is inside the Ministry for Primary Industries' exclusion zone.
It means fruit being brought into the zone in lunch boxes has to be eaten as it's not allowed to leave again.
MOTAT's Danielle Dunn says bins are being provided so children can offload any left over fruit.
"MPI will have a number of staff on the site, and they'll be explaining to customers and visitors exactly what they need to as well as handing out information so everyone's informed."
