Farmers department store is returning to Auckland's CBD.

Whitcoulls will leave its iconic Queen Street shop so that Farmers can return.

The James Pascoe Group owns both.

It says the heritage corner store will close mid-year for refitting work to begin, with the new Farmers doors to open ahead of Christmas.

No word yet whether the traditional giant Santa and reindeer will still go above the store .
