Some popular Auckland events could be missing out on funding because they do not tick the right boxes.

Art in the Dark is not going ahead this year, and there are now doubts it will go ahead in future years.

The festival did not receive enough funding from council events body Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) to move to Western Springs, and is running out of room at Western Park.

Producer Ella Mizrah said it is disappointing, but it's not ATEED's fault.

"It feels like we're falling through the cracks of their criteria, potentially."

Zero-cost and alcohol-free events like Art in the Dark miss out on the ticket revenue and alcohol sponsorship other events have.
