Home ownership in Auckland is getting further out of reach for first home buyers.
The latest Massey University Home Affordability Report shows houses in Auckland are the least affordable in the report's 25 year history.
Professor Paul Gallimore says houses are now over 22 percent less affordable in Auckland, but for the country as a whole, the annual deterioration in affordability is only 10.4 percent.
"Sometimes the overall picture is showing some improvement. Auckland continues to be the odd one out in that respect. I think we can expect that that situation is not going to change in any major way in the foreseeable future."
