Officials have pulled out all the stops for Auckland, as the city celebrates another big weekend.

The Volvo Ocean Race is still in town, and it's the first weekend of the Auckland Arts Festival.

South Africa takes on Pakistan in the Cricket World Cup at Eden Park this afternoon as well.

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development spokeswoman Charmaine Ngarimu says the popular fan trail will be operating.

"It starts down in Britomart and it's got the usual sort of banners and flags and bunting as people go along and make their way to Eden Park.

"It's a great way to get to the game."

Ngarimu says the race village in Wynyard Quarter will be buzzing.

"Four of the boats have been craned into the water on Sunday, so that's another great sight to be seeing over the weekend."

The teams embark on the nearly-7000 nautical mile leg to Brazil next Sunday.
