New Zealand's rowers have collected five medals at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne. Eric Murray and Hamish Bond continued their domination of the men's pair. The women's lightweight double scullers Julia Edward and Louise Ayling earned silver. Edward says they've probably done their popularity no favours with other crews. "We see these girls on TV and we always strive to better them. They probably don't like it at all having these dark horses come through but it's really good for us, and it's a really big confidence builder." Mahe Drysdale took silver in the men's single sculls as did Storm Uru and Peter Taylor in the men's lightweight double sculls. Juliette Haigh and Rebecca Scown have won bronze in the women's pair. Four of New Zealand's crews who earned world championships medals last year, failed to make the podium at the regatta. Photo: Eric Murray and Hamish Bond (Photosport) |
