Kiwi kayakers finish seventh

By: Gary Denvir | Other Sport News | Wednesday August 8 2012 21:57

New Zeland kayakers Steven Ferguson and Daryl Fitzgerald have finished well outside the medals in the Olympic final of the men's K2 1000.

The Kiwi crew made a solid start, but were quickly swept up by the rest of the field and were last at the 250m mark.

Ferguson and Fitzgeraldf were still 8th at the halfway stage, before making a run at the top four in the last 500m.

However, they tied up over the last 100m and faded to 7th, in what was expected to be Ferguson's fourth and final Olympics.

In the B final of the men's K1 1000, Ben Fouhy has had a disappointing end to his campaign

He finished a distant 6th, after drifting too far off the pace in the first 500m.
