Blackadder concerned about TMO's power

By: Guy Heveldt | Latest Rugby News | Monday July 16 2012 17:20

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has concerns a questionable television match official decision could decide the Super Rugby title.

The use of the TMO has come under heavy scrutiny in the last two weeks after some contentious calls in critical stages of matches.

Blackadder says referees need to go with their gut sometimes rather than taking the easy option of going upstairs.

"It's better than asking the question because then they have to award it anyway. Very rarely will a TMO go against that question so I just think it's something that I hope doesn't creep into play, especially with the finals on the line now in these big games and these big moments."

Meanwhile, Todd Blackadder says number eight Kieran Read is likely to miss the first round of the playoffs.

Blackadder says Read's still battling rib problems and they'll make a decision earlier in the week than usual so they have the best preparation possible.
