Queensland have claimed first blood in State of Origin with an 18-10 victory over New South Wales in game one in Melbourne. It was the Blues who started strongest, dominating the first 20 minutes and opening the scoring through winger Akuila Uate. The tide turned when centre Michael Jennings was sin-binned for joining in a fight, and Maroons winger Darius Boyd scored the first of his two first-half tries while he was in the bin. Jennings made up for his spell with the opening try of the second half, but a controversial try to Greg Inglis seven minutes from the end sealed the result. Inglis appeared to have lost the ball over the line, but the video referee ruled Blues hooker Robbie Farah had played at the ball in kicking it out of Inglis' hands. Queensland take a 1-0 lead as they search for their seventh straight series victory. Game two is in Sydney on June 13. Photo: Photosport |
