Friend played on with broken jaw

By: Eliott Smith | Latest Rugby League News | Sunday May 6 2012 7:38

The Warriors' 30-20 NRL win over the Broncos has come at a cost.

The home side has put together arguably its best performance of the season, but will lose hooker Nathan Friend for several weeks after he played 75 minutes of the game with a broken jaw.

Coach Brian McClennan says it's a major blow.

"Very bad news for us, he did it early in the match, there's a lot of respect from every body in the organisation for the toughness of Friendy."

However McClennan's hailing his side's second half defence.

"That's what we've got to do in these big games. Last week against Melbourne we didn't do that at the end of the game, but tonight we did, and that's a big step forward for us in terms of our growth as a team."
