Basin Reserve may have test status withdrawn

By: Elliott Smith | Latest Cricket News | Monday April 30 2012 11:19

Wellington's Basin Reserve may have its test status withdrawn unless it can fix its earthquake-prone Museum Stand.

The stand was blocked off for South Africa's recent test at the venue after it was slapped with a yellow sticker assessing it at risk should a major quake hit the capital.

Basin Reserve trust spokesman John Morrison says New Zealand Cricket's made it clear they can't continue with it non-operational.

He says they've received a letter that amounts to a veiled threat saying it needs to be fixed.

The Wellington Council has set aside funds for it to be fixed in 2015-16, which is obviously not acceptable to the venue trust or New Zealand Cricket.
