Busy afternoon for Coastguard as vessels are grounded

By: Newstalk ZB Staff | Upper North Island News | Sunday July 29 2012 17:23

Two boats in serious trouble this afternoon required a quick response from Coastguard.

A thirty-five foot fishing vessel that ran aground on rocks at Whangaroa in the Far North carrying two occupants and a dog is unsalvageable.

And a yacht on the Waitemata Harbour with five people aboard also required urgent help.

Witnesses saw it being smashed onto the rocks.

The incidents occurred within an hour of each other.

Coastguard say everyone was rescued and is safe.
