Gyrocopter crash at Tauranga harbour

| Upper North Island News | Sunday June 17 2012 19:01

A Gyrocopter has crashed into the Tauranga harbour at the entrance between Mt Maunganui and Matakana Island.

Fire Service Shift manager Jaron Phillips says there were two people on board.

"Boaties have rescued the two occupants of the Gyrocopter. One is being transferred to hospital and one of the people on board did not require any medical assistance."

Mr Phillips says around the same time, just after 4pm a Paraglider also crashed in Tauranga.

"It's crashed through trees and onto Marine Parade, which is a road in Mt Maunganui, and the pilot of that paraglider has suffered moderate injuries to the person's ankle."
