84-year-old man collapses on walking track

An 84-year old man was airlifted off Mount Maunganui's Mauao late this morning after he collapsed on a walking track.

The man who walks up the Mount weekly, was about three quarters of the way up when it's believed he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Its only the second time the new Port of Tauranga winch, recently fitted to the Trustpower / TECT rescue helicopter.

He was flown to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition.
