Jobs are being guaranteed for New Zealanders if mining goes ahead in Northland.
The Energy and Resources minister Phil Heatley has rejected claims by anti-mining protesters that jobs will go to foreign-owned companies and skilled-overseas workers instead of locals.
He says the results of an aeromagnetic survey was launched today providing a database of minerals in the region.
"Though the idea that there are no jobs lies against the fact of so many going to Australia. We'd rather retain them here in fact I'm hoping that one day we'll bring them all back with the skills that they've acquired."
Mr Heatley says employment is one of the major reason the survey was conducted.
