A South Dunedin property remains cordoned off following an alleged sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl last night.
The victim was walking to meet her mother a short distance away when she was dragged into a carport and assaulted by a male.
He's described as being in his late teens, with a wispy beard and wearing dark clothing.
Detective Robert Neville says it's unclear how the victim escaped.
A nearby resident says she heard screaming but assumed it was a domestic incident.
A scene examination is still in progress. The incident happened between 7 and 8pm last night on the corner of Kirkcaldy street and Bayview Road. Police want to hear from anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation. Photo: NZ Herald |
