The city of Palmerston North is today welcoming more than 2,000 new residents.
The Local Government Commission has confirmed a proposed boundary change between Palmerston North City and the Manawatu District, which will see 755 households now become part of the city.
Palmerston North City Council and Manawatu District Council both support the boundary change.
Palmerston North Mayor Jono Naylor says the reorganisation of boundaries means the Council can provide industrial land for development.
"One of the things that's going to be critical is that we now have control over the roading network around the city."
The boundary change comes into effect on the first of July.
