Plans to remove empty Hawke's Bay state houses

| Lower North Island News | Tuesday April 24 2012 15:31

Housing New Zealand is planning to remove some empty state houses in Hawke's Bay as part of a redevelopment project.

166 state rental properties across Napier and Hastings are untenanted.

Housing New Zealand says 64 are earmarked for future redevelopment.

Asset development manager Sean Bignell says there's a large number of empty houses in Maraenui because people on the waiting list don't want to live there.

He says the houses will be removed because they're a target for vandals and are attracting crime.
