The MidCentral District Health board has unanimously voted in support of maintaining maternity services in Whanganui. Secondary maternity and gynaecology services were at threat of being moved to Palmerston North, due to staffing shortages. Under the revised Regional Women's Health Service, both hospitals will provide secondary maternity and gynaecology services, with a 24/7 O and G roster. Women's Network Manager Carla Donson says it's a cause to celebrate. "I think it's the best possible outcome we could have across our region for our communities, and probably an outcome that was better than any of us imagined." Photo: Stockxchng |
