Another bid to save ChristChurch Cathedral

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Thursday May 3 2012 8:37

There's another bid to save ChristChurch Cathedral.

More than 80 well-known Cantabrians have written an open letter to CERA, the Church Property Trustees, Cathedral Chapter and City Council urging a halt to its deconstruction.

Among those who've signed the letter are former Mayor Garry Moore, former MPs Philip Burdon and Margaret Austin, former city councillors Derek Anderson, Anna Crichton and Alister James as well as business and community leaders.

The letter says they agree with the high profile engineers who say the cathedral can be saved and that to do so is a question of time and money.

They say there must be a pause to the demolition to find the engineering solution and necessary money to restore the Cathedral.
