Two Oyang 77 officers back in court

Two officers of the fishing vessel Oyang 77 are back in the Christchurch District Court this morning, facing a number of fisheries breaches.

The ship's factory manager and the captain have been charged with 12 offences including dumping fish at sea, misreporting quota species and failing to report catching a basking shark - which is a highly endangered.

The charges refer to the men helping the commercial fishing company Southern Storm Fishing Ltd, which also operated the Oyang 75.

That vessel was tied up for a long period at Lyttelton Port, when its Indonesian crew walked off citing mistreatment, wage issues and poor working conditions.
