The tills are expected to be ringing at Fieldays. The four-day event kicks off today at Mystery Creek near Hamilton. A hundred and 17 thousand people attended last year, down on the peak of 132,000 in 2008. Business correspondent Roger Kerr says how much farmers spend at Fieldays acts as a barometer of the mood of the country. "Credit tracking bureau Veda Advantage, they support their prediction of reasonably buoyant spending at the Fieldays with some hard data during the month of May." Mr Kerr says credit card applications are up by 17 percent and mortgage enquiries have jumped 30 percent. Photo: Opening morning of Fieldays 2012 (Nigel Yalden) |
