PM would send own children to a charter school

By: Barry Soper | Latest Political News | Friday August 3 2012 18:36

Prime Minister John Key says he'd send his children to a charter school.

Mr Key says they're successful in the United States which has 5500 of what he's now calling partnership schools.

He says if they don't work here the Government will simply close them down.

Mr Key doesn't expect everyone, particularly the teacher unions, will like them.

"I think if we're waiting for the teacher unions to agree with us we'll be waiting for a very long time, but in terms of parental demand for them in the United States they're quite high."
