MPs bat for Bennett over welfare reform

By: Felix Marwick | Latest Political News | Thursday March 1 2012 5:57

Senior National MPs are circling the wagons around Social Development Minister Paula Bennett.

They're going into bat for her as she prepares to introduce significant and controversial welfare reforms.

Justice Minister Judith Collins is commending Ms Bennett's fortitude.

"Paula Bennett has had the courage to do what no other Minister of Social Development has done in our lifetime," she told the House yesterday.

Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman is living up to his title.

"Paula Bennett is the best Minister of Social Development that this country has ever had," he says.

Mr Coleman says the minister is making brave decisions.
