The next steps in the Maori Council claim for water rights and interests at the Waitangi Tribunal are still up in the air, after closing arguments were heard yesterday. The urgent hearing was pushed along because of the request to halt the partial asset sales of the state owned energy company. The Maori Council's Maanu Paul hopes that by the end of the month, there'll be an interim finding about whether the council has a claim, and the process will go on from there. And the finding might say, yes the council have a case, and then go on to phase two, which will mean a much more detailed hearing, that'll take a lot more time. Photo: stock.xchng |
