Labour not sold on drug testing beneficiaries

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Political News | Friday June 29 2012 7:42

Labour's hoping the Government isn't returning to the idea of drug testing beneficiaries.

Deputy Prime Minister Bill English suggested the idea at a Federated Farmers conference yesterday.

Labour's welfare spokesperson Jacinda Adern says while Mr English's comments were flippant, it's not the right move.

"We're not going to introduce anything that doesn't have an evidence base to it, and all of the evidence suggests that measures such as these that are that forward brush do much more harm than good."

Ms Adern says if there are beneficiaries with drug problems, they're in the minority.
