A banking expert says computer glitches which leave thousands of people without their wages should be a very rare occurrence.
All banks were affected yesterday by a network issue with the Swift payments system, which is used to transfer files between them.
Massey University senior banking lecturer Claire Matthews says banks are aware of how much their systems depend on technology.
"They put a huge amount of resource people and money into making sure those systems do work well because there is such a reliance on them."
Ms Matthews says there's still no guarantee it won't happen again.
