$17 million from the Lottery Grants Board will be spent on commemorating the centenary of the landings at Gallipoli and World War I.
Internal Affairs Minister Chris Tremain says the money will be available to fund community events and projects marking 100 years, with $10 million going towards one or more large scale projects of national significance.
The first application for grants associated with commemorations can be made from next month.
Mr Tremain says another $200 million in lottery profits will be returned to the community this year, about $26 million more than expected.
