More involvement wanted for Te Puni Kokiri

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Maori News | Wednesday May 2 2012 13:54

A push is being made for Te Puni Kokiri to play a more active role in new legislation and major government decisions.

It comes from Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples, who's ordered a working group to refocus and strengthen the agency's role.

He wants Te Puni Kokiri to have more input into major decisions made across the Government spectrum.

"The whole aim of this, at anything that we do here, is to make sure that Tangata Whenua or Maori views are part of the New Zealand culture."

Mr Sharples says the working group is to report its findings in mid-July.
