Man charged after central London siege

By: AAP | International News | Sunday April 29 2012 12:29

A man has been charged over a siege that brought one of London's busiest shopping streets to a standstill.

Michael Green, 48, has been charged with several offences, including possession of a weapon, false imprisonment, criminal damage, endangering life and making a bomb hoax, after an incident on Friday at an office on Tottenham Court Road, the Metropolitan Police said on Saturday.

Armed police and negotiators took three hours to end the stand-off in which office equipment was hurled from a window in the capital, where security forces are gearing up to police the London Olympics from July 27.

Green was remanded in custody and will appear in court on Monday.
