Landslide/Flooding in Philippines impacts over 100,000

| International News | Wednesday August 8 2012 5:21

A landslide has killed nine members of one family in the Philippines, as flooding worsens.

The landslide was in Quezon City in Manila and buried two houses.

Seasonal monsoon rains have been causing havoc in Manila.

504mm fell yesterday, and more is on its way.

CNN reports the flooding has already forced nearly 130,000 people across the country from their homes and about 78,000 have moved into emergency shelters.

CNN's Alex Zolbert says floodwaters are waist height or more in the streets of Manila.

"The main concern right now in this area is getting these people to higher ground as the flood waters are rising and more rain is in the forecast."
