Air Force Orion helps save man overboard

| International News | Tuesday April 24 2012 17:48

A New Zealand Air Force Orion has helped to save a man washed overboard from a merchant vessel north west of Singapore.

The P3K Orion aircraft is currently working out of Malaysia, and was preparing for an annual exercise with Five Power Defence Agreement partners last night, when it received a mayday call from the merchant vessel.

The aircraft flew quickly to the last known location of the sailor who'd gone overboard, and spotted a red flashing beacon within the search area.

A ship was directed to the beacon and the missing sailor was rescued.

He's reportedly alive and well.
