A scientist who helped his terminally ill mother die will speak at a conference on euthanasia on Thursday. South Africa based Professor Sean Davison will complete his five months home detention tomorrow, following the assisted suicide of his mother in 2006. He administered an overdose of morphine. Organiser of the conference, Otago University's Centre of Theology and Public Issues director Andrew Bradstock says we need serious and informed debate around the issue. Professor Davison will be just one of four panellists - another will be Labour's Maryan Street who has a private members' bill to allow some aspects of assisted suicide. Photo: stock.xchng |
