Larry's Memo: July 9

Share |

By: Larry Williams | Monday, July 09, 2012

The Maori Council is attempting to block the SOE partial sales because they think they own the water.

They want ownership to the riverbeds, which effectively means the water that flows down those rivers in certain areas.

The Government is confident that the Maori Council has no case.

The PM says that nobody owns the water. I'm inclined to agree with him but since the Government changed the foreshore and seabed law - all bets are off the table.

At the very least I see Maori having some rights, the extent of which is not certain.

Whatever, it’s all about the money.

Those opposed to the partial sales of SOE's will be overjoyed.

Those for the sell down will see it as another example of a country that continues to screw itself.

EXECUTION

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has made a powerful plea for the rights of women in Afghanistan.

Her comments came as a horrific video emerged showing the public execution of a 22-year-old woman accused of adultery, amid fears that recent gains for women are under threat as NATO troops leave and Kabul seeks peace with the Taleban.

The woman was shot 5 times at point blank range in front of a cheering crowd of men. It was just an appalling disgusting thing to watch. The kind of thing we witnessed with a Nazi murdering a Jew; back of the head stuff.

Difficult to see then much changing once the troops depart. Afghanistan is a nation of mongrels. This culture will no change when there's nobody else there, indeed it will probably accelerate.

IN SPORT

Federer beat Murray in the Wimbledon final to win his 7th Wimbledon title and his 17th grand slam title.

That he can win a grand slam title at the age of 34 is remarkable. Federer goes down as possibly the greatest ever player.

Murray won the first set and there is no question that he can play. He's no mug. It’s just that Federer is better.

Sonny Bill Williams is off to Japan to play rugby then back to the NRL.

SBW is following the money. He's for sale to the highest bidder whether that be rugby, league or boxing. I think that is clear. I guess you could call him a sports mercenary. It is certainly not about the game or the All Black jersey for SBW.
