Political Report: Our A-lister John Key

State Homie John Key's off to Hollywood tomorrow night to wine and dine with the movie moguls.

New Zealand's newest high profile resident James Cameron will host a private dinner for him where all the big wigs will be. They're the same big wigs that are the main complainants against, yes another high profile resident in God's Own, Kim Dotcom.

The Homie doubts whether the alleged internet pirate's name will even come up, more like hoping and praying.

He says anyone who's questioning the timing of his trip as being in someway sinister is nothing more than a conspiracy theorist.

He protests he's interested in jobs for Kiwis, not people who live in fantasy land and make things up. But they're exactly the sort of people he will be seeing. Cameron, the new Wairarapa run holder, is after all the creator of Avatar and most movies are based on fiction and fantasy.

Key's going to Tinsel Town to talk up the production and post-production work in God's Own which supports 2,700 businesses. Vicariously he's acting as the Lord of the Blings Peter Jackson's agent because much of the work that'll come this way will go his way. And of course his dinner host Cameron will also benefit from the silver spooning of the big screen, so picking up the tab won't be any great hardship.

Talking up his trip The Homie was asked on several occasions whether there'll be any more carrots offered to lure the monied movie makers to set up shop down under. He didn't expect he'd have to, although that's what he said when the Warners came calling two years ago.

They went away with $34 million of tax rebates and money for marketing. And the industrial laws were changed which saw the actors taking the leading roles in opposing the changes.

It was a big row over little people, The Hobbit movies which have now been made and the first, An Unexpected Journey, will have its world premier in the capital next month.

The vicarious recipient of the taxpayers' largesse, was Peter Jackson of course. But then, as they say, you've got to spend money to make money as The Homie will find out as an A-lister in Hollywood this week!
