Larry's Memo: October 19 - The Week That Was

Share |

By: Larry Williams | Friday, October 19, 2012 7:17 PM

ON THE WEEK THAT WAS

WINZ Security Breach

That a far left activist can walk into a Winz office and download data from a computer kiosk is a disgrace.

It’s a disgrace that WINZ security was so slack and it’s a disgrace that those responsible are portraying themselves as whistle blowers who have done us all a favour.

I don't believe it for a nanosecond.

You don't wander in off the street and just start trawling around a computer system. More so if you’re not a Winz client. You don't download 7000 files.

There is a deep stench around all of this. The USB stick. The downloading. The agenda. The hacker. The request for money. It looks ugly.

Psycho Killer

The psycho killer, Akshay Chand clearly should not have been freed on bail.

The judge got it wrong. Period.

Now I know that judges can't lock everybody up who is on serious charges but with Chand there were red flags all over the place.

His letter to the judge was not only a con it was also an admittance of guilt. That the shrink found he could come to self-harm that should have raised the alarm bells.

The judge got it wrong. The shrink got it wrong.

Presidential Debate

Debate number two and it was clearly won by President Obama.

He wasn't as incoherent as he was in the first debate. He attacked. He defended his policies. He also lied, but they all do that. Politics is about the art of bending the truth which is essentially lying.

The next debate is on foreign policy. Iran will feature. Romney will be all gung ho.

But again, it doesn't really matter who wins.

For the sake of the U.S. and the world, who ever wins needs to have control of the House and the Senate so that they can actually make policy.

The U.S is a basket case right now and it is the fiscal cliff that needs to be dealt to whoever wins.

David Shearer

David Shearer dug himself a hole over his wild GCSB claims and there is no hope of climbing out of it.

I suspect Shearers days are numbered. His support within Labour's caucus is disappearing fast.

His attack on the PM and more importantly the GCSB lacks credibility.

He hasn't produced the video. He hasn't proved it was deleted from computers. He hasn't done so because the story looks very much fabricated.

The head of the GCSB has refuted everything. He says there was no video. There never was a video. Nothing has been deleted from the Bureau's system.

Remarkable how Shearer has managed to turn what was all out attack on the PM to a position of defence and ridicule.

Other Matters

The MTA came out swinging on the WOF. They are spending big time on protecting their revenue base. I can understand that. But their campaign is about commercial imperatives not safety. I think most folk get that.....

The Greens and Labour are rallying around on the youth wage. The Greens are lodging a complaint to the Human Rights Commission claiming it’s unlawful to discriminate against youth. Labour opposes it saying its discrimination on the basis of employment status. Mind you it was OK when they had a youth wage. Now it’s discrimination. Anyway, the fact is, a youth wage is good for youth employment. So what's it all about then?

A child killer got six and a half years for the manslaughter of his daughter. He threw the 3 year old against a wall and then stomped on her. Judge Venning said the offending was a one off. Judge Venning goes onto our Judges Hall of Shame.
